Stella Matutina (Morning Star) College of Education under the Management of the Franciscan Sisters of the Presentation of Our Lady was established in July 1961. The College offers B.Ed., M.Ed., M. Phil, and Ph.D. Degree courses. The College has been conferred Autonomous status in 2005. However, it continues to be affiliated College of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University and is autonomous in the sense that it is free to frame its own courses of study and to adopt innovative methods of teaching and evaluation. The college has been accredited at the five-star level by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in April 2000, re-accredited at Grade ‘A’ level in 2007, and re-accredited (Third Cycle) at ‘A’ Grade with CGPA: 3.48 in December 2014.

SMCE Vehicle Parking

Facility for parking the vehicles of the students, both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, is available on the campus itself. The rules and regulations of vehicle parking inside the campus are strictly monitored by the student council members.

SMCE Common Room

The College maintains separate rooms for rest and recreation among the students. The common room has attached washroom facilities, and a water purifier to provide drinking water, both hot and normal.

SMCE Recreational Room

The college provides good recreational / sports facilities such as an aerobic and fitness room, and sports room with indoor games. The students are allowed to utilize it to improve their physical and mental health.

SMCE Labs

A well-equipped Computer lab, Biology lab, Physical Science lab, Psychology lab, Language lab, and Art lab are provided to support the teaching and learning process.

To help economically marginalized students, our college lends textbooks. Students can borrow textbooks of their prescribed syllabus from the book bank and retain the books until their semester examinations.

SMCE Safe Drinking Water

The institution provides RO purified water system on the campus with hot and normal water facilities and it is available in all the floors.

The college has initiated an eco-friendly measure, to use solar power as an additional power supply in order to facilitate uninterrupted teaching and learning.

ADMISSION

The admission process is carried out as per the Government and Tamilnadu Teachers Education University norms. 50% of Admission is by single window counseling and 50% by Management. Stella Matutina College of Education provides free admission to transgenders and children who had lost their parents due to covid-19.
